The mumps vaccine protects against mumps, a viral infection caused by a paramyxovirus of the genus Rubulavirus. Mumps typically cause enlargement of the parotid glands on both sides of the face, leading to swelling at the angle of the jaw anterior to the ear. While mumps is extremely rare in infants less than one year of age, infection usually confers immunity. Humans are the only known hosts for the mumps virus.
How The Vaccine Works
Why It's Important For Children's Health
Benefits

• Protection for Young Children: While mumps is rare in infants, vaccination ensures protection as they grow older.
Risks and Side Effects
• Rare but Serious Side Effects: Allergic reactions are rare but possible.
